The annual cricket awards kicked off tonight and hilarious hosts Sam Perry and Ian Higgins had the crowd roaring with laughter when they made a subtle dig at cricket star Michael Clarke after his infamous brawl in Noosa with his ex-partner last year.
Also podcast hosts of The Grade Cricketer — the duo put many big names on the spot during the awards night but got the most laughs when Higgins knelt next to Steve Smith to chat about his nomination for a potential fifth Allan Border Medal.
The podcast host reminded him he was equal to Michael Clarke and Ricky Ponting.
“This year, the winner actually gets a trip to Noosa with Karl Stefanovic, that’s exciting,” Higgins said — hinting at the public brawl between Clarke and his ex-partner Jade Yarbrough — who is Stefanovic’s sister-in-law.
Awkward smiles filled the crowd, but it didn’t stop Aussie captain Pat Cummins from laughing.
The former Australian cricket captain was filmed in an argument with his ex-partner who can be heard accusing him of cheating on her.
Footage was released of the couple in a heated throwdown, taken by a member of the public early last year.
During the infamous argument, Yarbrough yelled obscenities at her ex-partner Clarke and accused him of cheating with his ex P.E Nation founder Pip Edwards.
The footage was sold to The Daily Telegraph for $10,000, making headlines around the country.
