India acquires Pole Position in the ICC 2023 World Cup Points Table

Both India and New Zealand have six points each on the points table but India has moved from third place to the pole position due to its better net run rate. India overtook New Zealand to claim the top spot in the ICC World Cup 2023 Points Table after registering a stunning 7-wicket win over India’s arch-rivals Pakistan at Ahmedabad on Saturday (14th October).

Both India and New Zealand are tied on six points each after winning their first three matches of the tournament, but India has moved up from third position to the top position because of their better net run rate.

India’s current net run rate is +1.821 while New Zealand’s current net run rate is +1.604. South Africa is in third place with 4 points on the Points Table. However, they have the best net run rate and if they win their next match against the Netherlands in Dharamshala on Tuesday (17th October), they will easily take the No.1 spot in the ICC World Cup 2023 Points Table.

However, India will be confident that they can retain their top spot again by winning their next match against Bangladesh in Pune on October 19 (Thursday). This counter-win against Pakistan also helped India consolidate its position at the top of the ICC ODI Rankings.

India was heading into the match against Pakistan on the back of impressive wins against Australia and Afghanistan and they maintained that momentum on Saturday in front of 100,000 people at the World’s Largest Cricket Stadium at Ahmedabad.

Rohit Sharma’s 86 runs innings and an inspirational bowling performance helped India beat Pakistan by seven wickets in their high-profile World Cup clash at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Saturday.

Team India is enjoying a dream performance in the 2023 ODI World Cup and is at the top of the points table. The Rohit Sharma-led team has won all its matches so far and has 6 points in the points table. But India may lose the pole position to South Africa. South Africa is also unbeaten in this tournament and has won both matches.

The margin of victory gives South Africa a huge lead in their Net Run Rate. South African team has four points with a net run rate of +2.360. The net run rate of South Africa is pretty high and they will get the top spot easily after defeating the Netherlands in today’s match.

Since there is a chance of rain during South Africa vs. Netherlands match, there can be a situation that the match may also get cancelled. If this scenario happens, then South Africa will remain in third spot. Both of the teams i.e. South Africa and Netherlands will get 1 point each on the points table. If the Netherlands gets a point, they will drop to the last position and overtake Sri Lanka in the ICC World Cup 2023 Points Table.
