India overtook New Zealand to claim the top spot in the ICC World Cup 2023 Points Table after registering a stunning 7-wicket win over India’s arch-rivals Pakistan at Ahmedabad on Saturday (14th October).
Both India and New Zealand are tied on six points each after winning their first three matches of the tournament, but India has moved up from third position to the top position because of their better net run rate.
India’s current net run rate is +1.821 while New Zealand’s current net run rate is +1.604. South Africa is in third place with 4 points on the Points Table. However, they have the best net run rate and if they win their next match against the Netherlands in Dharamshala on Tuesday (17th October), they will easily take the No.1 spot in the ICC World Cup 2023 Points Table.
However, India will be confident that they can retain their top spot again by winning their next match against Bangladesh in Pune on October 19 (Thursday). This counter-win against Pakistan also helped India consolidate its position at the top of the ICC ODI Rankings.
